Hyptis velutina merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Lamiaceae (suku nilam-nilaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Brazil hingga Bolivia. Nama ilmiah Hyptis velutina diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Johann Baptist Emanuel Pohl pada tahun 1833.
