Malacothamnus foliosus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Malvaceae (suku kapas-kapasan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering di wilayah Meksiko (Baja California barat laut Norte). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan monarch bushmallow. Nama ilmiah Malacothamnus foliosus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Sereno Watson pada tahun 1951.
