Melampodium sericeum merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga El Salvador. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan rough blackfoot. Nama ilmiah Melampodium sericeum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Mariano Lagasca y Segura pada tahun 1816.
