Harendong [snd] merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Melastomataceae. Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Melastoma malabathricum ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Seychelles, wilayah Asia tropis, subtropis, hingga Australia utara dan timur. Nama ilmiah Melastoma malabathricum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
