Mimosa arenosa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Karibia selatan, Meksiko barat daya, Venezuela, hingga Brazil timur. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan elegant mimosa. Nama ilmiah Mimosa arenosa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Ludwig von Willdenow pada tahun 1810.
