Mimosa asperata merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan puerto rico sensitive-briar. Nama ilmiah Mimosa asperata diperkenalkan oleh Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1759. Nama ini merupakan sinonim dari Mimosa pigra var. asperata.
