Mimosa gracilis merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Brazil hingga Argentina timur laut. Nama ilmiah Mimosa gracilis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama George Bentham pada tahun 1842.
