Mimosa occidentalis merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko selatan hingga Belize. Nama ilmiah Mimosa occidentalis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Nathaniel Lord Britton pada tahun 1928.
