Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah India barat daya, Assam. Nama ilmiah Osbeckia stellata var. hispidissima diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Robert Wight pada tahun 1977.
