Bunga lilin merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Pachystachys lutea ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Peru hingga Brazil bagian utara. Bunga lilin juga dikenal dengan sebutan lain yaitu lolipop. Nama ilmiah Pachystachys lutea diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck pada tahun 1847.
