Pectis prostrata merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Selatan Serikat, Venezuela, Ekuador, hingga Karibia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan spreading chinchweed. Nama ilmiah Pectis prostrata pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Antonio José Cavanilles pada tahun 1797.
