Peperomia rhombea merupakan tumbuhan epifit dari famili Piperaceae (suku sirih-sirihan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko (Chiapas) hingga kawasan tropis Amerika. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan peruvian peperomia. Nama ilmiah Peperomia rhombea pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Hipólito Ruiz López pada tahun 1798.
