Phaseolus leptostachyus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh menjalar. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga Amerika tengah. Nama ilmiah Phaseolus leptostachyus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis George Bentham pada tahun 1837.
