Phaseolus tenellus merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Meksiko tengah dan timur laut. Nama ilmiah Phaseolus tenellus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Charles Vancouver Piper pada tahun 1926.
