Piper achoteanum merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Piperaceae (suku sirih-sirihan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko (Chiapas) hingga Honduras. Nama ilmiah Piper achoteanum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis William Trelease pada tahun 1929.
