Piper acutifolium merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Piperaceae (suku sirih-sirihan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Peru hingga Bolivia dan Brazil bagian utara. Nama ilmiah Piper acutifolium pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Hipólito Ruiz López pada tahun 1798.
