Piper excelsum merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Piperaceae (suku sirih-sirihan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Selandia Baru, Kepulauan Society (Tahiti). Nama ilmiah Piper excelsum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis George Forster pada tahun 1786.
