Piper phaeophyllum merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Piperaceae (suku sirih-sirihan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko (Chiapas) hingga Guatemala. Nama ilmiah Piper phaeophyllum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis William Trelease pada tahun 1952.
