Rhus ovata merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Anacardiaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari California hingga Meksiko utara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan sugar sumac. Nama ilmiah Rhus ovata diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Sereno Watson pada tahun 1885.
