Ruellia coccinea merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Karibia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan yerba maravilla. Nama ilmiah Ruellia coccinea diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Martin Vahl pada tahun 1794.
