Senecio australis merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Pulau Norfolk, Selandia Baru (Pulau North barat laut). Nama ilmiah Senecio australis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Ludwig von Willdenow pada tahun 1803.
