Vernonia cymosa merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari Kepulauan Nikobar, Jawa. Nama ilmiah Vernonia cymosa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Ludwig Blume pada tahun 1826.
