Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Alaska tenggara hingga British Columbia barat. Nama ilmiah Viola biflora subsp. carlottae pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis James Alexander Calder pada tahun 1965.
