Kapas belanda adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Malvaceae (suku kapas-kapasan). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Gossypium hirsutum ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Pasifik, Meksiko hingga Ekuador dan Brazil timur laut. Nama ilmiah Gossypium hirsutum diperkenalkan oleh Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1763.
