Corylus avellana adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Betulaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa hingga Kaukasia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan hazelnut atau common filbert . Nama ilmiah Corylus avellana diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
